ScrewTurn Wiki 4.0 Alpha
September 6th, 2011 by Dario Solera | Filed under Development.Today we’re releasing the first Alpha version of ScrewTurn Wiki 4.0.
The main change in this release is the brand-new search engine, completely based on Lucene.NET.
The new search engine is available on all storage engines:
- Local, a.k.a. SQL Server CE
- SQL Server
- Windows Azure Table/Blog.
This is an important improvement as the new search back-end is faster, more accurate and it finally supports wildcards, so you can search for “local*” or even “locali?ation”. Way cool.
Tomorrow we’ll also publish a guide on how to deploy ScrewTurn Wiki 4 on Windows Azure. Stay tuned!

Great news! Keep up the excellent work.
We’re looking to set up a Wiki for our in-house development team and I think ScrewTurn will fulfill our needs.
That said, I don’t want to install the 3.x version (whether via the MS Web Platform Install, or direct download from the STW web site) if v4.0 is coming out soon. Especially since the installation of our wiki isn’t critical and can wait a few weeks if needed.
So my first question is whether the system requirements for STW 4.0 have been posted anywhere? What, if any, differences between it and the 3.x version?
The second question is if there is, broadly speaking, a target release date? I know how it is with development and “It’ll be released when it’s released” but I’m hoping to get an idea if we’re talking a few weeks or several months.
Finally, if I end up installing the current 3.x version, are there plans for a smooth upgrade from 3.x to 4.0 when it is released?
Thanks
Doran, we don’t have a set release date, but our plans are to release within 2011. Unfortunately I can’t be more precise. That said, it will be possible to upgrade from v3. This will most probably happen by exporting data in v3 and importing it in v4.
Thanks. I know how difficult such estimations can be. Knowing your target is within the next quarter helps a lot. I wish you the best in meeting that goal.
integrate Lucene.NET…. GREAT feature!
I plan on giving this a go once the enhanced plugins have been implemented. I’m really looking forward to major improvements over v3!
